All-Stars (Summer) Season

See 2025 All Star Presentation here.

The DYSA All-Stars program is an early summer competitive season for the 8U, 10U, 12U and 14U age divisions (depending on player availability). It is designed for those players seeking a more competitive softball experience. All-Star team selection recognizes players who have excelled as evidenced by their game performance, softball skills, positive attitude, and overall sportsmanship. To give your athlete an opportunity to be selected, please read this carefully.

Participating in the All-Star summer season requires a commitment to weekend travel to various locations within the greater Sacramento area (see below for details). There may also be multiple midweek practices at the manager's discretion.

Practices:

The Davis All-Star program is designed for motivated, enthusiastic, and skilled players. A positive attitude and strong parental support are essential to each team's success. Players are expected to attend all practices. Beginning in May, there may be several practices in addition to the player's regular spring season schedule. Practices will be held at Community Park, Slide Hill, or Mace Ranch Park.

Tournaments:

The Davis All-Star program consists of multiple weekend tournaments culminating in the USA Softball of Sacramento Association Championships. Tournaments are typically held on Saturdays and Sundays and include three to six games per weekend. Teams that finish the Association Championships in a qualifying position may advance to the California C State Games in Southern California.

Each All-Star team manager will select tournaments based on team and coach availability, experience, and skill level. Most All-Star teams play 2–5 summer tournaments.

Players will be asked about their availability on their All-Star applications. Players who know they will miss the Association Championships or more than one complete tournament may not be selected for a team. If a selected player misses a game in any tournament without prior coach approval—barring injury or illness—that player may be asked not to try out for the following season's team.

Coaches:

The DYSA Board of Directors selects All-Star team managers from a pool of applicants. Manager applications will be available beginning April 1.

All-Star managers and the selection committee, who will be formed by the All Stars Coordinator, will scout interested players multiple times during the spring season. The selection committee will then choose DYSA All-Star teams from among those who apply. A final roster of 12–14 players will be selected, and all applicants will be notified promptly.

The All-Star coaching staff determines fielding positions and playing time for each player. Because this is a competitive season, play time, positioning, and batting order will not be equal among players—this differs from the spring recreational experience. Player skill and ability are paramount, and winning is the goal. Poor practice attendance or a negative attitude may result in reduced playing time or removal from the team.

As representatives of DYSA and the Davis community, all participants in the All-Star program—players, managers, coaches, and parents—are expected to demonstrate the highest levels of sportsmanship.

Applications:

Manager Applications must be submitted between April 1 and April 12.

Player Applications will be released in April and are due by April 22.

Selection Process and Open Practice:

Each All-Star player is selected based on input from current and former coaches, as well as observation by the selection committee during games, practices, and the All-Star Open Practice. There are no formal tryouts. The All-Star Open Practices will be held on April 26.

Fees:

There is a per-player participation fee of approximately $300. Final fees will be determined by the number of tournaments each team elects to play. Scholarships and payment plans are available. For information on financial assistance, please contact registrar@davisyouthsoftball.org.
