All-Stars (Summer) Season

The Davis All-Stars program is an early summer competitive season for the 8U, 10U, 12U, 14U, and 16U age divisions (depending on player availability). It is designed for those players seeking a more competitive softball experience. All-Star team selection recognizes players who have excelled as evidenced by their game performance, softball skills, positive attitude, and overall sportsmanship. To give your athlete an opportunity to be selected, please read this carefully.

Participating in the All-Star summer season is a commitment that requires weekend travel to various out-of-town locations within the greater Sacramento area (see below for more details). In addition, there may be multiple midweek practices, as per the manager's discretion.

Practice:

The Davis All-Star program is for motivated, enthusiastic, and skilled players. A good attitude and parental support are essential to the team and player’s success. For the good of the team, players are expected to attend all practices. There may be several practices, beginning in May, in addition to the player’s regular spring season practice. Practices will be held at one of the Davis fields (Community Park, Slide Hill, or Mace Ranch Park).

Tournaments:

The Davis All-Star program consists of multiple weekend tournaments that culminates in a district tournament, the USA Softball of Sacramento Association Championships. Tournaments are typically held on Saturday and Sunday and consist of three to six games per weekend. Teams finishing the Association Championships in a qualifying position may advance to the California C State Games in Southern California.

Each All Star team manager will select tournaments for their team based on team and coach availability, experience, and skill level. Most All Star teams play 2-5 summer tournaments.

Players will be asked for their availability on their All Star applications. Players who will knowingly miss the Association Championships tournament or more than one complete tournament complete tournament may not be selected for a team. If a player selected for the team misses a game in any of the tournaments without receiving approval from their coach, barring injury or illness, that palyermay be asked not to try out for the following season’s team.

Coaches:

The DYSA Board of Directors selects the managers for the All-Star teams from a pool of applicants. Manager applications will be released on April 1.

The All-Star Managers try to scout every interested player multiple times during their spring season. The Davis All-Star managers will select their DYSA All-Star teams from the players who apply to the program. A final roster of 12-14 girls will be selected and all applicants will be notified promptly.

The All-Star coaching staff determines fielding positions and play time for each All-Star player. Given that this is a competitive season, play time, positioning, batting line-up placement, etc. will not be equal among players. This is different than the spring recreational experience. Player skill and ability are key and winning is the goal. Poor practice attendance or attitude may be grounds for reduced play time in games and/or removal from the team.

As representatives of DYSA and the Davis community, it is expected that all those involved in All-Stars, including players, managers, coaches, and parents, exhibit the highest levels of sportsmanship.

Application:

Manager Applications must be turned in between April 1 and April 15.

Player Applications Player Applications will be released in April and are due April 25.

Selection Process and Open Practice:

Each all star player is selected based on input from the player's current and former coaches and observation by the selection committee during games, practices, and the all star open practice. There are no tryouts for all stars.

The All Star Open Practice will be in late April, exact date TBA.

Fees: The season will have a per-player participation fee. Fees are approximately $275, final fees will be determined by how many tournaments each team decides to play in.  Scholarships and payment plans are available.
